September is National Coupon month?

What???  Did you know that September is National Coupon month? And, there is a whole website dedicated just to the history and facts about couponing.

Here are some facts that I found interesting:

  • Coupon redemption in the first half of 2010 increased by 7.9%, outpacing results in the first half of 2009. Consumers saved nearly $2 billion with coupons during this time frame.
  • 92% of shoppers have changed their grocery shopping behavior in the last two years
  • 73% (3 out of 4) of shoppers stock up on an item when they find a bargain
  • 1965: One-half of Americans are now coupon users
  • 2010: Consumer packaged goods coupon distribution and redemption (as of first half) continue to build on record-breaking growth trends of 2009. Consumer purchase behavior points to a permanent shift toward value and saving as the United States recovers from the worst recession since the Great Depression
